Meet Plum Vail host Jolana Leigh Smith! In addition to seeing Jolana on Fresh Tracks and The MorningNoon&Night Show, you can hear her on KZYR 97.7 "The Zephyr" (True. Local. Radio). Jolana has been living in Vail for close to 4 years and shares with us some of her Valley favorites.

How long have you lived in the Eagle Valley (and where did you live before)?

My husband Scott and I moved here in September of 2005 from Boston where I was a music radio personality. Before that I lived in Texas, Washington State and California, including Los Angeles, as a TV/Radio news anchor/reporter/producer/photographer. I’m originally from St. Louis.

Ski or Snowboard? And what gear are you using?

I started skiing Vail in 1977 when I was 7 years old so I’m totally a Vail ski snob. Even when I lived in Boston I never touched New England slopes. Right now I ski on K2’s with Marker bindings, Lange boots with warmers…(don’t judge…I’m all about taking advantage of technology…) with a Giro G-10 Helmut with Skull Candy…Can’t ski without music.

What's your favorite run on Vail? Beaver Creek?

Highline on Vail mountain is the epitome of bumps…I can’t get enough of this double black diamond run because when I’m in a zone with my cool, funky, atmospheric club jazz floating through my helmut…there’s nothing more challenging or freeing. Beaver Creek? Who cares when Vail is right here! But Scott wants me to put the Glade and Stickline because those are two of his favs.

Vail has 8 Back Bowls. Which is the best?

Siberia
Bowl!! It one of the furthest bowls so it’s always the least crowded with steep deep feet of certified Colorado champagne on powder days.

Favorite Valley restaurants (comfort food, fine dining, brunch)?

Dish, a small plates restaurant, for my “everybody knows your name” haunt where Chris the bartender even has a drink named after me, Sonnenalp’s Bully Ranch Restaurant for a Mudslide, Rick & Kelly’s American Bistro for a Plum(tv)tini, Restaurant Kelly Liken for a French Martini, Tap Room pub for it’s cute mini bottle’s of bubbly with a straw…and….oh…you mean food? All of the above plus you can throw in Pazzo’s for pizza, Sweet Basil for succulent fine dining, Sato for sushi, Los Amigos for Mexican & Route 6 Café for a true, hole in the wall, been around forever, delicious breakfast.

Best place to grab a beer/cocktail?

Obviously I’ve already been there…
