Yes, you read that correctly. And no, this is NOT an April Fool's Joke (that would be such poor taste!) With a base depth in Highlands Bowl topping 100 inches, the deepest it has been all season, Aspen/Snowmass has made the incredibly wise & outstanding decision to extend Highlands season through the weekends of April 18-19 & April 25-26.

From Aspen/Snowmass:

Aspen Skiing Company announced today that it will extend the season at Aspen Highlands through April 26. A series of spring storms has pushed the base depth in Highland Bowl to over 100 inches – the deepest it has been all season – and conditions should be great through the end of the month of April. Highlands will open on Saturday and Sunday, April 18-19 and April 25-26.

“Some people are ready to put this year behind them, but we are a town of skiers and snowboarders – if we have the snow, we’re going skiing,” said David Perry, senior vice president, Aspen Skiing Company. “We know it’s been a tough year and this is our way of saying thank you to the community and the rest of the winter sports world.”

The mountain will be open to the 12,382-foot summit of Highland Bowl. The Exhibition, Loge and Deep Temerity lifts will tentatively run from 9:00 a.m. to 2 p.m.* (temperature dependent) providing access to most of the mountain. The Merry-Go-Round restaurant will serve a limited lunch menu with barbecue, chips and beverages.

Are you grinning yet? Thank the Snow Gods, and thank Aspen/Snowmass! And are you aware that this year marks Aspen Highlands 50th Birthday (see attached video)? What better way to celebrate this milestone for the "locals' mountain" than with two extra weekends of skiing!

"If we have the snow, we’re going skiing." Well said, Mr. Perry, well said.
