Fun Fact: You can actually drink margaritas every day, not just on Cinco de Mayo.

Fun Fact: You can actually drink margaritas every day, not just on Cinco de Mayo.

It's Cinco de Mayo, which means tequila! I popped into Crema Restaurante in Chelsea to meet with Gaston Martinez, a "brand ambassador" for Milagro Tequila, and asked him to mix up a few cocktails for me.

The key to margarita happiness? Use a tequila that's 100% agave (as if you'd be buying anything else).

Other tips:

- Always use fresh lime juice (that means no "Skinny Girl Margarita" mix - sorry Housewife Bethanny).
- Use agave nectar as your sweetener.
- Water is a key ingredient in a good margarita (so shake well, which allows some of the ice to melt).
- Always pour your margarita over fresh ice (don't just pour out the contents of your cocktail shaker into a glass).

Here's Gaston's recipe for the "World's Freshest Margarita":

2oz tequila (Gaston suggests Milagro Silver tequila, of course)
1 oz Agave Nectar (Gaston reminds you that Milagro also makes this)
1 oz Lime Juice
Served in a Rocks Glass
Garnished with a Lime Wheel

Gaston also created a special cocktail for Crema, called the "Spicy Mango":

1.5 oz tequila (Gaston suggests Milagro Reposado tequila for this one)
.5 oz Lillet
.25oz Lemon/Yuzu Juice
.75 Elderflower Syrup
1oz Mango Juice
1 Thin Slice Habanero
.25oz Egg Whites
Served in a Martini Glass
Garnished with a Mango Slice

I tried one of these at Chili's and it was one of the best margaritas I've ever had. I am now looking for agave nectar to make my own at home!
