PLAY

1) Chow down on some chili for a good cause at the 10th Annual Chili & Chowder Contest Family Fun Day on Sunday, September 27, from 12-4 p.m. at the Boardy Barn in Hampton Bays. There'll be restaurants and individuals submitting their favorite chili and/or chowder recipes for tasting and voting by residents, visitors, with a blind tasting by 3 judges. There's also face painting, hot dogs, soda and games for the kids. This event benefits the Hampton Bays Chamber of Commerce Scholarship Fundraiser, so come on out...you can bring your own fierce chili recipe, or just try everybody else's! Admission is $10 for adults and $3 for children.

EXPERIENCE

2) Come get a glimpse at simpler times with the Southampton Historical Museum at Harvest Day on Saturday, September 26, from 10 a.m. till 4 p.m. at the Rogers Mansion. Learn all about the fascinating vocations of yesteryear as costumed tradesmen and craftsmen demonstrate woodcarving, broom making, blacksmithing, weaving and many more traditional skills...maybe you'll discover a new hobby! There will also be Civil War re-enactors making camp, practicing rifle shooting and walking in a parade. Admission is free! Bring the kids out for this blast from the past!

3) Rock out (with a glass of fine chardonnay) at Rock The Harvest on Saturday, September 26 at Pindar Vineyards in Peconic. This is Long Island's ONLY Indie Rock, Wine and Harvest Festival, so you don't wanna miss out on all the excellent bands & vino, including performances by Big Suga, Kerry Kearney Band, Miles To Dayton, Nancy Atlas Project, and Big River Ransom! Portions of proceeds will benefit The Retreat domestic violence services. For more information, visit the festival's website.

4) It doesn't get more local (or tasty) than this! On Saturday, September 26, come to the Hayground School at the 6:30 p.m. for the Fourth Annual Slow Food Pig Roast, otherwise lovingly known as Pighampton. Enjoy an incredible raw bar featuring Peconic Pearl and Mystic Oysters and local clams, great wines from Paumanok Vineyard, and of course all the delicious slow & low roasted pork you can handle. There will also be live music and a raffle, and proceeds from the event will support the Good Food Education Programs of the East End. For tickets, visit the website.

5) Get those delicious seasonal veggies while they're still around at the Hayground Farmers Market on Friday, September 25, at 3 p.m. at Corwin Homestead in Bridgehampton. Tons of locally grown goods like veggies, herbs, fruits, eggs, seafood, and a fantastic selection baked goods will be laid out for you. It's a great way to start your crisp fall weekend in the Hamptons, some come on out for some local goodness!
