The BLT Steak New Yorkers have been raving about has found a home in the hip and sleek boutique quarters of The Betsy Hotel on Ocean Drive. The Filet Mignon, the delightful popovers, and the ambiance have turned into a winning combination.
The hotel’s cozy environment makes the restaurant the perfect spot for romantic dinners. As you walk in the front entrance of the hotel, the restaurant is off to the right, sharing a space with the front desk and lobby area, so people watching comes with the territory. And there are a lot of people to see, as the hotel has been attracting local A-listers, hipsters and other VIP’s on weekend nights. Recently, the hotel hosted an Art Basel event, and camera crews were hanging around in the lobby hoping to catch a glimpse of who was on the list.
BLT , which stands for Bistro of Laurent Tourondel is an American steakhouse which began in New York and has since spread to other major cities, along with Miami, such as Washington D.C., Los Angeles, Scottsdale, White Plains and outside the U.S. to Hong Kong in mid 2000. Tourondel began his career as a chef for an Admiral in the French Navy. After stints back and forth between France and the U.S., he eventually branched out on his own.
Miamian’s have followed suit with their Northern cousins and welcomed BLT Steak to the area. One reason for the warm welcome may be the delicious and warm popovers given to each guest as they sit down for dinner. The bread creations are a sight to behold, and with a little bit of butter swiped on the top, it’s certainly a good beginning for what’s to come.
Starting with the appetizers, The Taylor Bay scallops or the tuna tartare with avocado and soy lime dressing are recommended choices. For main course options, you can’t go wrong with the Filet Mignon. Or for something a little different, try the American Wagyu Skirt steak, it literally melts in the your mouth with every bite. All of the beef is USDA Prime or Certified Black Angus and naturally aged. Other meat items to savor, include the 7 spice duck breast, with foie gras.
Fish lovers may want to try the sautéed Dover Sole or the acacia honey marinated Alaskan Black Cod, among others. The sides are traditional for a steakhouse, but the jalapeño mashed potatoes and spicy bbq corn, are a couple unique items to add to the table.
