August 8 - August 16, 2009, Nantucket Race Week
Nantucket Race Week is an eight-day experience that marshals the entire Nantucket community together in a fun-filled week of regattas, awards ceremonies, and parties.
The races provide sport for everyone from young dinghy sailors and families in the household knockabout to grand prix racers at the very top of their profession. The racing begins on Saturday, August 8, 2009 with events scheduled daily through Sunday, August 16, 2009.
This year organizers are working with Sailors for the Sea to designate Nantucket Race Week as a Clean Regatta.

August 15, 2009, Sandcastle & Sculpture Day
The Nantucket Island Chamber of Commerce, in conjunction with the Nantucket Island School of Design and the Arts (NISDA) will hold the 35th Annual Sandcastle and Sculpture Day, Saturday, August 15, 2009 on Jetties Beach.
Over 50 sculptures will emerge from the sand on this August afternoon. A late-summer ritual for some, families and teams return year after year to vie for top honors.
