Every Monday, we post The Five Best Things to enjoy in the upcoming week. These things are selected by the Plum TV staff and often times by you.

They range from humble to haute and include exciting events, festivals and performances as well as dining, shopping and playing at various treasured spots, shops and institutions.

This week we're looking forward to...

SAVOR

1) Enjoy some delicious local food AND help promote a sustainable community at the Sustainable Nantucket Dinner Series on Monday, November 2 at American Seasons. It's the final event for this wildly popular series, which features four courses (and wine & beer) of amazing cuisine directly from Nantucket's chefs, farms & growers. Tickets are $75, and dinner begins at 6:30 p.m. Check out the website for more information about this and other sustainable events in the area.

PLAY

2) If you thought the Dreamland, one of our favorite local nonprofits, was finished for the year...think again! Dreamland is still offering many exciting & interactive opportunities for island residents to take part in. You can take a class on acting, photography, fashion, or if you think you can dance (or even if you know you can't!), why not attend their much-loved hip hop dance series? So while you're waiting for their Movies Under The Stars series to return, get a little creative! Go to the Foundation's website for their super simple registration.

3) Now is the time of the year when a lot of us find ourselves with more free time, and less places to spend it at. Many fantastic local organizations are looking for volunteers, so why not give back to the community? Help out with the Nantucket AIDS Network, or join Big Brothers Big Sisters, The Nantucket Atheneum, or The Nantucket New School, and show a little philanthropic love for your neighborhood.

EXPERIENCE

4) If you have a gorgeous garden here on Nantucket, now is a good time to get it all ready for the long winter headed our way. Move plants around, remove weeds, remove diseased leaves, add winter mulch, and water your garden thoroughly before the ground freezes, so you'll have happy and healthy flora come spring.

5) On Saturday, November 7 at 11 a.m. at the Atheneum, catch Dorothy Hesselman, author of Mabel Kissed Me, along with the star of the story, Boston Terrier Mabel! A story reading will be followed by refreshments and a book signing with pawtographs (yes, really!) by Mabel. Free but space is limited. Check out the Atheneum's website for more information. If you attend any of these events or activities, please report back to Plum with your thoughts on our suggestions and photos of your adventures! We want the good & the bad!
