The Nantucket Maria Mitchell Association is a private non-profit organization located on the island of Nantucket, Massachusetts. The Maria Mitchell Association (MMA) was founded in 1902 to preserve the legacy of Nantucket native astronomer, naturalist, librarian, and, above all, educator, Maria Mitchell.

We hold community events year-long and invite you to kick off your spring season by attending a couple:

 

"Starry Nights for Families & First Dates"

Open Night at Loines Observatory April 30 & May 1
& 30 8-9:30pm Study the constellations and view the Moon, planets, nebulae, galaxies and more through a telescope. In case of poor weather, a slide presentation will be offered. 59 Milk St. Ext. Members FREE; non-members $10 adult, $6 child.

 

"Itsy-Bitsy Spiders & Big Lenses"

Sun., May 3 1-3pm Spider Basics

Learn how to identify the several groups of spiders found on Nantucket. Using a microscope and a guide, you will learn about these fascinating creatures and how they survive. $15 members, $30 non-members. Meets at the Natural Science Museum, corner of Milk & Vestal. Must pre-register by calling the Maria Mitchell Association at 508 228-9198.

 

"Full-on Family Fun"

Sun., May 3 1-4pm Nantucket Family Adventure Kickoff

Join several island non-profits for the kickoff of an 8-week series of guided and self-guided outdoor adventures. It’s FREE and fun for the whole family! "Galileo Would Be Proud"

Tue., May 5 4-5am Eta Aquarids Meteor Shower

Grab a blanket and/or chair and join us for this early-morning event. Witness one of astronomy’s great spectacles as meteors trace brilliant paths across the spring sky. Weather permitting. Loines Observatory, 59 Milk St. Ext. Members FREE, non-members $5 adult/$4 child.
