June 13, 2009, A Taste off the Vineyard Patrons' Dinner & Gala Auction
Begins @ 6:00 p.m. on the Dr. Fisher House Lawn, Main Street, Edgartown

This is the second of two fabulous events that jumpstart the Vineyard's summer season. At the Patrons' Dinner and Auction, you'll feast on delectable hors d'oeuvres and savor fine beverages while previewing the auctions - Live and Silent.

After an entertaining cocktail hour, you'll be invited to be seated for a palate-pleasing dinner with a tantalizing menu designed and created by V. Jaime Hamlin and Sons Catering.

Then, hang on to your hats - here comes Trippy! Clarence "Trip" Barnes is our inimitable auctioneer - sometimes politically incorrect, often irreverent and always entertaining. You'll have the opportunity to bid on some of the most unique and coveted items ever presented for auction.

There's always a surprise - or two!

Edgartown on the Fourth is classic Americana!

Fella Caters offers you a classic American cookout - burgers and dogs with all the fixins' and much more! Bring the family, spread out your blanket and relax and enjoy a great meal while waiting for the parade to start.

Free marching band concerts in the Old Whaling Church before and after the parade are fun for the whole family. Food is sold and served a la carte and tickets are not needed to attend.

It's a great place to have a casual dinner after the parade and before the fireworks!

July 19, 2009, 'Round the Island Race

The course itself is a splendid sail, reminiscent of the race around the Isle of Wight in England, which was the course of the first America’s Cup.

The distance around Martha’s Vineyard is similar (only a few miles longer); both courses have views of cliffs, headlands, villages and open water; and the tidal currents and wind effects are important in both.

The course around the Vineyard passes in sight of the seven lighthouses of Cape Poge, Gay Head, Tarpaulin Cove, Nobska, West Chop, East Chop and Edgartown. In the morning the fleet sails between Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket along the east beach of Chappaquiddick.

At midday they are in the open Atlantic Ocean with views of the south coast of the Vineyard. In the afternoon, rounding the gorgeous cliffs of Gay Head, the fleet sails up Vineyard Sound which was the second busiest body of water in the world during the age of sail.
