New York-based mini-TV network Plum TV is on an expansion course. PTV now broadcasts in eight affluent vacation markets such as Vail, Co., Miami, Fl., the Hamptons in New York and Martha's Vineyard in Massachusetts with more on the drawing board (12-to-24 markets a target). "There are 14 million people who travel through these markets each year. We have collected a lot of data on this elusive demographic and we're using a lot of different platforms to spread the word," said ceo Tom Scott.
PTV, for example, has relaunched its web site. "It's more interactive and up-to-date. Very much user-friendly. It moves us into the realm of multimedia," Scott said. Added Scott, "people see (PTV) as three things. A social network that connects them to on-the-ground events. A TV network and an interactive company. And we have synergy with different platforms-information and content on our web site is applicable to TV. We'll be adding (TV) content, some that is localized and that extends to real estate, food, architecture, and, on the national front, 'green' programming." PTV also is offering video-on-demand capability. As a result, PTV is ramping up its efforts to woo advertisers. "We're selling access to our network and the degree to which we can customize plans for advertisers is unique. What you'll see from us is a focus on geographic-specific areas," said Scott.
