Chairman

Tom Scott emerged as an entrepreneur at a young age when he started selling provisions to people stuck in the gas lines in his native Maryland. In college, he spent his summers on his upstart floating general store in Nantucket Harbor. Upon graduation from Brown University, with a B.A. in American Civilization, Tom and his college friend, also named Tom, created Nantucket Nectars, turning a kitchen concoction into a multimillion-dollar juice enterprise. Through unique, grass roots, relationship-based marketing and innovative production and packaging methods, Nantucket Nectars grew to national prominence, putting it on the "Inc. 500" list of fastest growing U.S. companies for five years in a row. His groundbreaking work as CEO garnered Tom several awards and accolades, including the Mercury Award for Advertising, Ernst & Young's Entrepreneur of the Year award, several leadership and design awards, and was featured in the documentary film “Lemonade Stories.” In 2002, Scott and his partner sold Nantucket Nectars to Cadbury Schweppes.

In 1998, Scott began the transition from juiceguy to mediaguy when he invested in Nantucket Television and, in 2002, bought the channel. In 2004, Scott began Plum with a group of partners and continues to serve as Chairman. Plum has grown from a single channel on Nantucket to a network of 8 local television channels and websites serving over 16.4 million people a year. Plum creates a variety of original programs including Open Exchange: Beyond the Boardroom with Jonathan Tisch, featuring one-on-one interviews with businesspeople like Barry Diller, Ann Moore, and Howard Schultz; Artist’s Studio with Arne Glimcher featuring intimate interviews with contemporary artists like Chuck Close and John Chamberlain; and Books&Ideas, a show celebrating literature which has featured guests like Walter Isaacson and Christopher Hitchens. Additionally, Plum sponsors and partners on major events including the Martha’s Vineyard International Film Festival and BOOKMARK, a co-production with The Atlantic. Plum is available to an additional 4.5 million homes onDemand throughout New England and Colorado and can be seen on Joost, iTunes, and on all Delta flights. Scott also serves as executive producer for the Neistat Brothers Television Show and, because of his work with Plum, was named a 2007 Maverick by DETAILS, lauding him as an “innovator in media.”

Scott currently serves on the Board of Directors of several companies and is committed to many community organizations, serving on the board of directors of DoSomething, Shackleton Schools, and FlexCar. Scott lives in Connecticut with his wife, Emily, the founder of J.Crew, and their two sons. He is also an avid pilot and surfer.
