Plum TV, the small-market television network created by Nantucket Nectars
co-founder Tom Scott after his purchase of Nantucket Television in 2004, has added
Telluride, Colorado's local news channel to its stable of stations covering Nantucket
and Martha's Vineyard, the Hamptons, Aspen and Vail.
The Telluride station formerly known as KTMV TV-13 will be renamed Plum,
said Scott who declined to reveal the financial terms of the station's purchase
from Stormy Mountain Broadcasting, which was completed last Thursday.
"It shares a lot of properties we look for in a market. It sort of
singularly identifies itself," he said.
Scott said he was attracted to Telluride by its beauty and its unique
ability to "maintain growth and allow growth in a proper way."
The ski resort sits in the southwest corner Colorado, nestled between
the Rocky Mountain Ridge and the Uncompahgre National Forest. In addition to its skiing,
Telluride is known for its vibrant arts scene which stays alive throughout the summer
season.
"We now have three East Coast, summer locations and three mountainous
winter locations," said Scott who added that like other channels Plum has purchased,
Channel 13 will continue to maintain its own identity. The station's staff will be
retained and Plum will work for them for at least six months before considering any
programming changes.
"It's like what we did in Aspen. In both cases they have their own thing going.
We like it as it is. Why change it?"
Plum TV on Nantucket (Channel 22 on the Comcast Cable system) offers
a wide range of programming from coverage of high school sporting events to a daily
morning news and information show broadcast live during the summer months from the Rope
Walk restaurant on Straight Warf.
Plum will be addition a few new programs to the line-up this season, Scott
said, including an interview show called 'Beyond Politics' featuring Stan Pottinger,
assistant attorney general during the Nixon and Ford administrations , as well as the
assistant to the attorney general in the Carter administration. One of the first guests
will be U.S. Supreme Court Judge Antonin Scalia.
"It's the first time I've ever met a Supreme Court judge... at least that intimately,"
Scott said.
