Sun Valley Telemark Series director Danny Walton guides us through the 2009 Hawaiian Nationals Telemark Challenge, the the oldest, continually run telemark ski race in America. This year marked the 29th Annual Hawaiian Nationals Telemark Challenge with over 100 competitors from 5 states. From far and wide, they gathered (in the most ridiculous outfits possible) to participate in the Telemark Challenge, the Tandem Challenge, the Telemark Parade and the HumanSlalom. In addition to walking through Winch Cat operating protocol, Kevin shares some of the grooming hot spots (where skiers & hikers should be extra alert) and discusses the dangers of the assisted cables and their movements on various terrain. Snow Making Department Supervisor Dennis Harper gives us a behind-the-scenes tour of Sun Valley's legendary automated snow creation system. Over 570 automated snow guns mix compressed air and water to blanket Baldy with layers of man-made snow. Snow making kicks off about two to three weeks before opening day begins and continues unabated, 24 hours a day through out the rest of the season.
