Gibney's documentary, "Taxi to the Dark Side," just won an Academy Award for Best Documentary. Wheels Up with the C.M.A.

The Cordillera Motorcycle Association is more than just motorcycles. George Allen & Laura Foster of C.M.A. describe the association's "Wheels Up" program which provides a full year of school supplies and backpacks to the Valley's disadvantaged first graders. Plum rode along with the benevolent bikers to area schools as they dropped off the supplies to some very excited school children.

Federal funding doesn't cover childcare for kids under 5 years old, so Cathy James and Jill Burchmore from Bright Futures have proposed plans to expand early child care and education for San Miguel County. Voters will decide on the issue during the November election.

The Future of the Medical Center

Diana Koelliker, M.D. and Pamela Sante talk about plans in Initiative 1A to build a larger medical center in town, on which the community will vote in November. With only four emergency room beds, patients often are treated in the hallways due to lack of space. The proposed building will double the space for patients, and is smaller than the town's library but much larger than the current med center.

Telluride Citizen of the Year

Local resident Kathy Green just received Telluride's Citizen of the Year award. She's been on the Ecology Commission, has "packed heat" as a park ranger and has seen Telluride's changes through since the '70s. The winner of this award is given $5,000 to the nonprofit of their choice, and Kathy has chosen to give hers to the Ah Haa School for the Arts.

Using Art to Represent Science

Part scientist, part artist Duncan Mackenzie explains his latest solo exhibit - an installation that presents a new way to imagine our planet. His art represents the connection between the earth's orbit and a person's location. Using nature, the earth's and sun's rotations and hundreds of webcams around the world, his calendar uses an artistic format to present science. Duncan's installation is featured at the Ah Haa School for the Arts, while his recently completed sundial is a permanent feature in the Mountain Village core.
