In this edition of Beyond the Boardroom, our host Jonathan Tisch sits down with Frits Van Paasschen, the Chairman and CEO of Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide. Paasschen gives us a glimpse into the world of hotel and hospitality from his world renowned W Hotel in Times Square. He discusses the affects of Globalization on the hotel industry, and how his plan for staying ahead of the curve involves heavy expansion into foreign markets. Paasschen attributes his progressive world view and cross-cultural empathy to his childhood in the Netherlands and primarily seeing the U.S through the eyes of a foreigner. Although globalization has a large affect on the future for Starwood, Paasschen still believes in the versatility of the U.S and is optimistic for the future of the industry. We learn that this Frists is somewhat of a "Brand Geek" with his resume loaded with respected companies such as Disney, Nike and Coors. He gives us exclusive insight into the similarities between companies in global brand management. As a constant forward thinker, Passchen plans to make Sustainability and international growth a focus for the future of Starwood.
