Wainscott, NY - This past dark and stormy Saturday night in the Hamptons, hopeful diners and drinkers at the new Georgica Restaurant & Lounge huddled under a small awning to avoid the driving rain as they pleaded their cases to unsympathetic doormen.

The man in charge (nightlife impresario Matt "You're Never Getting Past The Velvet Ropes" Levine of the Eldrige fame) decided that not letting people in wasn't punishment enough; he ordered his staff to retract the awning, causing everyone who had "dinner reservations" or "a friend inside" to get soaked.

Plum's Nick Leighton avoided the soggy scene as he was leaving (but still managed to get caught up in a velvet rope delay of his own).

This just goes to show "the power of small." As if Hamptons nightlife has not suffered enough due to this horrid weather, something like no awning to protect those from the rain is just the kind of detail that will stop many from going to Georgica in the future! So inconsiderate!
